Simon's debut solo album “I'll be Seeing You” was released in 2013, and recorded with orchestra, hit number one in the Irish iTunes album charts, following a much heralded performance on The Late Late Show.
Simon has often featured live on RTÉ, in conjunction with the country's orchestras and musical ensembles; taking a lead role in the 1916 celebrations with appearances at Áras an Uachtaráin and around the country on RTÉ. He has performed many leading operatic roles, including Marcello in La Boheme, Werther in Werther, Tonio in Pagliacci, Scarpia in Tosca, Candide in Candide, and Belcore in Cosi Fan Tutte.
Recent highlights include Noah in Noah's Flood by Benjamin Britten, for the Limerick City of Culture Celebrations), and the lead role in Julie Feeney's opera Bird at the Galway Arts Festival. Irish Times award winning opera’s he has starred in include The Gate Theatre’s production of Sweeney Todd and Cork Opera House's version of Pagliacci.
As a musical ambassador, Simon has travelled with the President of Ireland, to countries including Argentina and Chile, to perform Irish music on state occasions. He has been a guest performer on numerous occasions at Áras an Uachtaráin and has travelled as far afield as Myanmar to give ambassadorial performances.
Over the past three years, Simon has collaborated with many international artists including Harry Belafonte, John Sheehan, The RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Martin Tourish, Cormac De Barra, Eleanor Mc Evoy and Eddi Reader, with whom he is working on a new album; In 2019, with his band The Moorings.
In Norway, this August, Simon is organizing the “Lofoten Irish Music Raid” which will see Irish musicians travel around the Lofoten Islands of Northern Norway, by boat and land at various Island’s preforming live, in a reverse of the Viking raids on Ireland over a thousand years ago!
